Zohran Mamdani Pledges a 'Dawn' for New York City in First Address
On his initial day in his new role, Zohran Mamdani pledged to “transform” New York City, declaring “a new era” and an audacious beginning to his administration.
A Historic Mayor
The new figure, who was a virtually unknown state assemblyman, has become the city's first Muslim mayor. He also made history by being the first to be take the oath of office using the Islamic holy text.

Mamdani concluded his speech with a direct statement: “The work has only just begun.”
